Session 1 · Ruth 1–4
A Moabite widow is brought under the wings of the LORD.
- Famine drives Elimelech's house to Moab, the men die, and Ruth clings to Naomi with the words, your people and your God.
- Ruth gleans in Boaz's field, and he protects her because she has taken refuge under the wings of the God of Israel.
- At the threshing floor Ruth asks Boaz to spread his garment over her, and he names a nearer redeemer who must be faced at the gate.
- Boaz redeems Ruth before the elders, the sandal seals the refusal of the nearer kinsman, and Obed is born in the line of David.
