Session 1 · Jonah 1–4
A prophet flees, and God pities the city.
- Jonah flees the LORD's presence toward Tarshish, a storm finds him asleep in the ship, and sailors cast him into the sea.
- Inside the fish he prays from the depths, vows sacrifice, and confesses that salvation belongs to the LORD, who commands the fish.
- He warns Nineveh that forty days will bring overthrow, the king and city repent in sackcloth, and God relents from the disaster.
- Jonah is angry that mercy won, a plant comforts him and dies, and the LORD asks whether he should not pity that great city.
