Session 1 · 2 Corinthians 1–5
Afflicted, yet a new-covenant ministry.
- Paul blesses the God of all comfort, explains his affliction in Asia, and insists that his changed plans were not a fickle yes and no.
- The church should forgive and comfort the disciplined offender, and Paul refuses to peddle the word, for he is the aroma of Christ.
- Ministers of a new covenant of the Spirit are not commended by letters of ink, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
- Treasure sits in jars of clay so the power is God's, and a slight momentary affliction prepares an eternal weight of glory.
- Walking by faith, they will appear before Christ's judgment seat, and God makes the sinless One to be sin so that we become God's righteousness.
Session 2 · 2 Corinthians 6–10
An open heart, a cheerful gift, true weapons.
- Now is the day of salvation, and the church must not be unequally yoked, for they are the temple of the living God.
- Godly grief produced repentance and zeal, and Titus brought comfort from a church that had received the severe letter well.
- The Macedonians gave beyond their means with joy, and Paul sends Titus so the Corinthians will finish the grace they began.
- God loves a cheerful giver, supplies seed to the sower, and the gift overflows in many thanksgivings to God.
- Paul's weapons are not fleshly, his authority builds up, and the one who boasts must boast in the Lord inside the sphere God assigned.
Session 3 · 2 Corinthians 11–13
A fool's boast. Grace enough. Test yourselves.
- Paul plays the fool to expose false apostles, listing dangers, hunger, and anxiety for the churches as the true marks of his service.
- A thorn in the flesh is left after prayer, and the Lord says that His grace is sufficient, for power is made perfect in weakness.
- On a third visit he will not spare unrepentant sin, and he tells them to examine themselves to see whether they are in the faith.
