Session 1 · 1 Thessalonians 1–5
A young church, a holy life, the coming Lord.
- Paul thanks God for their work of faith, labor of love, and steadfast hope, because they turned from idols to serve the living God.
- He recalls a gentle ministry that did not flatter or grasp, and they received the word in much affliction with the joy of the Holy Spirit.
- Timothy's report comforts him that they stand firm, and he prays that their love would abound and their hearts be blameless at Christ's coming.
- God's will is their sanctification, especially in sexual holiness, and the dead in Christ will rise when the Lord descends, so they should comfort one another.
- The day of the Lord comes like a thief, so they are to live as children of light, honor their leaders, and rejoice, pray, and give thanks.
