Session 1 · 1 Corinthians 1–5
The cross shames wisdom and cleanses the house.
- Paul appeals against divisions, because the message of the cross is God's power and the wisdom that shames the wise.
- He refused lofty speech so their faith would rest on God's power, and the Spirit reveals what human wisdom cannot search out.
- The church is God's field and temple, Paul planted and Apollos watered, and each builder's work will be disclosed by fire.
- Apostles are servants and a spectacle, so the Corinthians must not be puffed up, but imitate a father who will come with a rod if needed.
- A case of incest is being tolerated, and the church must deliver the man to Satan and purge the old leaven because Christ the Passover has been sacrificed.
Session 2 · 1 Corinthians 6–10
The body is the Lord's. Flee from idols.
- Lawsuits shame the church, the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom, and the body is for the Lord, bought with a price.
- Paul answers the married, the unmarried, and the bound about remaining with God, undivided devotion, and each one's calling.
- Knowledge puffs up while love builds up, and food offered to idols must not be eaten in a way that wounds a weak conscience.
- Paul refuses pay he has a right to claim, becomes all things to all people, and runs so as to obtain an imperishable prize.
- Israel's wilderness fall is a warning, the cup of the Lord cannot be shared with demons, and whatever you do, do it for God's glory.
Session 3 · 1 Corinthians 11–15
The Supper, the body, and the risen Christ.
- Paul orders headship and prayer in the assembly, then rebukes a Supper that shames the poor and calls them to discern the body.
- Gifts differ, but one Spirit gives them for the common good, and the body needs every member God has placed.
- Love is greater than tongues, prophecy, and knowledge, bears all things, and never ends, while gifts of this age will pass.
- Prophecy edifies the gathered church, tongues need interpretation, and everything is to be done decently and in order.
- Christ died, was buried, and was raised, and if the dead are not raised then faith is empty, but He is the firstfruits of those who sleep.
Session 4 · 1 Corinthians 16
Lay aside the gift. Watch. Do all in love.
- Paul orders the collection for the saints, speaks of an open door, honors the household of Stephanas, and closes with Maranatha and love.
